Ooty

Ooty short for Ootacamund or Udhagamandalam is perhaps one of South India's most popular hill stationsin the south. Ooty is also known as Queen of hill stations and the capital of Nilgiris district. It is one of the most popular tourist resorts in India.

This heavenly abode remained hidden till the British discovered it in the early 1800s.Before the British there were Todas, an aboriginal tribe who inhabited the region since ancient times. The British constructed the first railway line in the area and made it the summer capital of the Chennai Presidency.Ooty  rightly described as "Queen of Hill Stations" by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Ooty is the most popular hill station in the South. Located in the Western ghats at a height of 2240m, The lush green valleys and the pristine natural beauty of the hill resort of Ooty give the chance to tourist's soul  for resuming their affair with Nature,to whom they truly belong.

Ooty tourism offers a gamut of scenic sites and adventure-laden trips both in the township and nearby areas. Tourist can visit a host of sites within Ooty such as Botanical garden, which has some rich flora of the region, St. Stephen's church that reflects the city's long association with the British.
