Nepal
Nepal - a tiny, landlocked country surrounded by India and China, is famous for its rich geography.Nestled in the lap of the mighty Himalayas, it is home to eight of the ten tallest mountains of the world, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, called Sagarmatha in Nepali. It contains more than 240 peaks over 20,000 ft (6,096 m) above sea level. The fertile and humid southern region is heavily urbanized, led by the capital city of Kathmandu. Hinduism is the major religion here, followed by Buddhism. However, most people dont distinguish between the two and what they follow is an interesting mix of both the religions, and that is what sets the country apart.
Tourist Attraction
There are many beautiful and interesting places to visit, having both historical importance
and natural
beauty. Most of them can be easily reached from Kathmandu by road or by air. Located 29-km north-west of the Kathmandu city, the fabulous holiday area of Kakani features attractions ranging from beautiful alpine
scenery to the magnificent Himalayan panorama. One of the most famous places of pilgrimage in Nepal is Gosainkunda Lake. Surrounded by high mountains on the north and the south, the lake is grand and picturesque. The life-size statue of Namo-Buddha, situated on a peak above the ancient village of Panauti is a must-see. Situated on a hill overlooking the snowy peaks of the Himalayas, there is a beautiful old palace known as Gorkha Durbar, about six hours away from Kathmandu. There are two attractive temples of Gorakhnath and Kali inside the palace precinct. Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, and non violence, is situated 250-kms south-west of Kathmandu. The broken Ashokan Pillar, remnants of old monastery, images of Buddhas mother Maya Devi, etc. are still preserved here. These are just some of the many destinations that travellers can explore.
cuisine
Nepali food is simple and healthy. You can intoxicate your body and senses by enjoying the fresh and organic food in Nepal. The most popular and basic food of Nepal consists of Dal Bhat lentils and rice. An exception to the low on spice and healthy food in Nepali cuisine is Newar cuisine that can be very elaborate and spicy.
Shopping
For shopaholics the country boasts of exquisite handicrafts and metal works. Woodworks, carpets, gems and jewellery are some other items one could purchase. Thangkas and Paubhas are scroll paintings that have decorated the walls of temples, monasteries and homes for hundreds of years. The Mithila paintings, known as Madhubani paintings in India, are a common practice among the women of southern Nepal.
Shopping, eating and sightseeing aside, the biggest attraction of Nepal has to be its lush green forests and peaks, brimming with natural beauty. The rich flora and fauna of this mountainous region is what attracts visitors from all over the globe. Adventure sports lovers are also drawn to this part of the world because the place has to offer the best of trekking, mountain-climbing, mountain-biking, expeditions, bungee-jumping and jungle-safaris. Adventure activities are the USP of the country and anyone looking for some adrenaline-pumping action must definitely head to Nepal.
Nepals weather is generally predictable and pleasant. Spring, summer and autumn are generally pleasant and a good time to visit. Monsoons (June-July) are best avoided. Snow-lovers must go during winters to experience sub-zero temperatures and the thrill of adventure sports like skiing.
